A Passion For Textiles
Located in the heart of Thimphu town, Norbooz Buray is your one stop solution for traditional Bhutanese dresses. From colorful Kiras with matching tegos and wonjus, Ghos in every pattern, everything is available here under one roof. When we talked with Norbu Wangdi about their in-house weavers, he told us that he has weavers all over Bhutan. His wife and daughter, who is an architect, come up with unique patterns for the kira and later these designs are commissioned to these weavers. Norbu supports the propagation of Bhutanese textiles and along with it the weavers, who are often from troubled families.
Bhutanese textiles have a long and rich history, deeply intertwined with the country’s culture and identity. These weaves uphold our textile identity and in turn teach their daughters.
